What services do I offer?
I provide both proofreading and proof-editing services to businesses, students, academics and non-fiction authors. I have given a brief description of these services below.
If you're not sure which service you need, please email me with a sample of your text and I will be happy to discuss this with you.
Proofreading
Proofreading
It's not always easy to spot the errors in your own work, which is where a good proofreader comes in!
What does proofreading involve?
What does proofreading involve?
Proofreading is the final stage of the editing process and it is not the time for making major changes. If your work needs this then you should think about getting it copyedited first. Proofreading is about giving your work that professional polish and helping to make your material fit for purpose.
When working on your document I will do the following:
•Correct spelling, grammar and punctuation
•Ensure consistency of style and usage of the above within the document
•Check that page numbers and headers are correct
•Check that tables, illustrations and captions match and are clear
•Check that page numbers in the table of contents match the text
•Ensure that the house or chosen style is followed throughout
For further information, the CIEP website provides an excellent description of the role of a proofreader.
Proof-editing
Proof-editing
Proof-editing is a relatively recent term. It is a service that lies between traditional proofreading and copyediting services and it involves carrying out a light edit to help improve the clarity and flow of the document. Please note that this is not a substitute for a full copyedit. If you are not sure what copyediting involves, then please look at this description on the CIEP website.
